At Dance Festival Music we are always looking for new talent in the music making game. If you have an arranger keyboard, you make MIDI Sequences or maybe you are a solo pianist we would love to sell your music.

You will be paid for each and every time your track sells, and best of all, its legal - we handle all licensing for you.

However, we dont accept every piece of music which is submitted to us - our customers expect high standards and we must deliver them.

How does it work?

You simply send us your recordings using the form below. We will review your music, and provided it meets our requirements for playing standard, recording quality and it is likely to appeal to our customers we will configure it as a product on Dance Festival Music.

What is important to think about with regard to my playing standard?

Well, first of all, absolutley no wrong notes. Sometimes when we play live we may play the odd wrong note and it passes in the blink of an eye. However, when you are recording it is important to realise that the same wrong note will be played back many times and it will become very obvious.

If you are recording music for singing you should ensure that it is in a reasonable key. Its no good doing everything in "C Major"

Be mindful of your tempos. Remember that you are recording music for dancers. Very young dancers need their music to be fairly steady, but the senior dancers can cope with something more up-beat.

What about recording quality?

All of the music on our site is recorded at 128kbps. This bitrate ensures CD quality playback. We will not accept MP3s which do not meet this standard.

All recordings must be 'direct recordings'. That is to say that you must have recorded to your computer or other recording device via a cable, and not by using a mic in front of your speaker.

We can only accept music in MP3 format. Due to the file sizes involved we cannot recieve .wav files.

All tracks submitted must have proper endings - no fade-outs.

What kind of music should I submit?

Our customers are stage and theatre dancers. Dont misinterpret this as sequence dancers, ballroom dancers, line dancers, street dancers etc. The most popular music for Stage and Theatre dancers is Showtunes, Hits from the Musicals etc. However, many of our tracks are unique and you never can tell what will be requested.

You are free to choose anything you like to submit, Swing and Jazz is popular for Tap dancing. Classical music for Ballet.

Your choice of music will probably be the deciding factor in how well your music will sell.

Because many festival rules state that music should be instrumental only we cannot accept vocal recordings.

How long should my tracks be?

Your music will be used in Dance Festivals. These are competitions and as with all competitions there are rules to abide by.

Some songs lend themselves to a solo performance such as "Puppet on a String", and some songs are obviously meant for more than one performer such as "Me & My Shaddow" or "Sisters". Think about the music you are producing and how many performers there would be.

In the dance festivals there are usually sections for

How much will I get paid?

If you submit enough quality tracks to us we may consider releasing your music on a CD.

We will pay you 50% of the retail price of the track for a download, and 40% of the retail price if we release a CD containing your music. Due to logistics of contributor payment we only release CDs which are exclusivly of a particular performer - your music will not share a CD with another contributor.

The lower percentage for a CD sale is to offset the additional licensing costs and the costs of producing the CDs.

The more tracks you upload the more your potential earnings increase.

It is quite concievable to still be getting paid for work you have done today many years from now, so the return on the investment of your time can be huge.

How will I get paid? In order to recieve payment from us you must have a Paypal account. We will make a deposit to your paypal account on a monthly basis. If you dont have a Paypal account click here to apply for one.
How can I trust Dance Festival Music to pay me?

Our contributors are an important part of our business. It is not in our interest to rip them off. We want you to continue sending us your music for a long time.

At the end of each month we will email you with a link to a page which details all sales. You can see how your tracks sell compared to other contributors. If you feel you are not getting paid for your tracks we invite you to test us. Just make a purchase on our site, and if we fail to declare it we will pay you three time the amount due. We are confident in our reporting systems and we are confident in our loyalty to you.

Is this legal?

Absolutly. We are licensed by MCPS to sell recordings that we make in house, and also to sell recordings made by individuals.

Our license allows us to sell original tracks and cover-versions of established music. We are NOT allowed to sell anything taken from a commercial recording - even sound effects and samples, so please do not include these in your recordings.

For example - if you were to play Glen Miller's 'In The Mood' and send it to us we can sell it legally. However, if you send us a recording of the Glen Miller Band playing 'In The Mood' we are not allowed to sell it.

If you reach a level where we can promote and sell a CD containing only your work we have to pay a different license.

We are well researched in music sales licensing and there is no obligation on you to obtain any licensing.

What about copyright?

As the performer of the music you retain the compyrights. As soon as you have made a recording you are automatically the copyright holder for that recording - there is no need to apply to any organisation for this, its your automatic right.

You are simply licensing us to sell your music for a royalty.

What are my obligations? We expect all of our contributors to have recorded their submitted music themselves, and by uploading your tracks you are stating that it is your own work and that you grant us license to sell it for you.
Is there any small print? Not really. as long as you have read and understood everything on this page you are good to go. The information on this page sets out the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) of submitting to us, so if you are happy with it you're ready to send us your music.

There is a 10MB file size limit. If your track exceeds this please let us know and we will make alternate arragngements.

I had recieved reports that some contributors have had difficulty uploading tracks. There was a restriction on my server which has now been lifted.

You shouldn't get any more problems now, but if you do please let me know.
